Talking to the Doctor

We paid a visit to the doctor today about an issue not related to ADHD.  I am thankful that our doctor consistently talks to DD as the patient, and not to me, the parent, first, as if she isn't there, because kids with ADHD need to learn to talk to the doctor about how they are doing and about how medicine makes them feel.

Today, we had a lesson about negotiating treatment, because the doctor recommended a medicine that we could not afford.  We returned to the office, told them that we'd get the medicine if the doctor thought it was absolutely necessary, but that if it wasn't we'd skip it.  Sometimes its ok to not take your medicine, but only if the doctor tells you what could happen if you don't, and you're ok with that.
