If you use Daytrana, get used to shortages and recalls. The patch delivery system has repeatedly been subject to recall by the FDA, as well as by its manufacturers. There are ways to get around the shortages involved with a recall, however.
1) Take your prescription to another pharmacy. Typically Daytrana recalls involve limited lots, not all the medication on the market, so another pharmacy may carry what you need.
2) Ask your doctor to work with your pharmacy on a work around. This could involve, for example, getting two 20mg patches in place of a 40mg patch.
3) Ask about a different medication.
If the reason you use Daytrana is because it allows you to avoid swallowing a pill, there are now many options available. Quillivant XR is probably the best match and easier to titrate than Concerta. Adzenys XR-ODT is an orally dissolving tablet.
If the reason you use Daytrana is because you seem to metabolize methylphenidate quickly, you may not find a good replacement, but you might find adequate relief from taking a booster dose of a either a long or short acting medication later in the day.
Thankfully, because Daytrana recalls usually only involve limited numbers of lots of the medication, shortages typically resolve within a couple of months, so whatever happens, just remember, relief is on its way.
