Taking a Break--A Tip for Schoolwork

Today was another bad day for math.  Elementary school math is hard for the ADHD mind because it takes sustained concentration, a decent working memory for what happened in the last step (especially if your handwriting is poor enough that you don't like to use it), and an ability to recall one's math facts quickly.

Occasionally we have days when DD gets thoroughly frustrated with math.  Frustrated to tears, in fact.  Now, when this occurs, I also get frustrated.  I guess I just need to recognize that when I get to the point of thinking, "Why can't you just get this?"  I need to take a break--and give DD a break.

We did nothing besides take a break for lunch.  I sat down with her after lunch.  We were both calm again.  And it really didn't take long to get through the rest of the math problems.
